The Hillbilly Prophet of Possum Ridge

Down in Possum Ridge, where the Wi-Fi signal goes to die and even the cows look confused, lived a man named Earl “Thunder Voice” McGraw. Now Earl weren’t no ordinary hillbilly—at least, not according to Earl.

Earl had recently decided he was, in his own words, “basically God, but with better boots.”

It all started one morning when he woke up, looked at the sunrise, and said, “Yep. Did that.”

From then on, everything was his doing.

“Rain today,” he’d announce, pointing at the sky. “You’re welcome. Crops was thirsty.”

“But Earl,” said his neighbour Dwayne, “it ain’t rained in three weeks.”

Earl squinted at the clouds. “I said scheduled, Dwayne. You gotta trust the process.”

Earl took his role very seriously. He’d stand on his porch every evening, arms stretched wide, shouting things like:
“LET THERE BE… SNACKS!”
Then he’d walk back inside and eat a whole bag of crisps like it was divine intervention.

One day, Earl marched into the local shop and declared, “I have come to perform miracles.”

The cashier, Brenda, didn’t even look up. “Last time your miracle was knocking over the freezer and calling it ‘parting the frozen sea.’”

“That was symbolic,” Earl said proudly.

Things really got out of hand when Earl started rewriting reality.

“My truck?” he said, patting his rusty pickup. “Fastest vehicle ever created.”

“Earl,” Dwayne replied, “it got overtaken by a mobility scooter yesterday.”

Earl nodded wisely. “I slowed it down for dramatic effect.”

Then there was the time he tried to bless the town barbecue.

He raised his hands and said, “This meat is now sacred.”

A dog immediately ran off with three sausages.

Earl didn’t miss a beat. “Behold! A test of faith.”

Despite everything, the folks of Possum Ridge didn’t argue much. Mostly because arguing with Earl took too long, and he’d just talk louder until he sounded convincing.

One evening, as the sun set, Earl stood on his porch again and declared:
“I control the universe.”

Right on cue, his porch step broke, and he fell straight into a bush.

From inside the leaves, he shouted, “Exactly as planned!”

Dwayne shook his head. “Earl, if you’re God, why you always losing?”

Earl popped up, covered in twigs, grinning like he’d just invented gravity.

“Because,” he said, “I like a challenge.”

And with that, he went back inside… to create another bag of crisps.
