Chapter One: A Party in Sherwood

The evening sun slipped between the ancient trees of Sherwood Forest, turning the leaves bronze. Around a bright campfire, the Merry Men prepared a feast. Bread was broken, venison roasted and wooden cups were filled.

“Tonight,” said Much, raising his cup, “we eat until there is nothing left but crumbs!”

Laughter rolled through the camp. Yet among the cheerful faces was a secret. One of the Merry Men had been passing information to the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Chapter Two: Friar Tuck and the Spanish Gold

Far from the camp, Friar Tuck travelled along a woodland path seeking a new place to live. Slung beneath his travelling cloak was a heavy purse containing many old Spanish gold coins. Each coin caught the light whenever the friar moved.

“Gold brings trouble faster than a hungry wolf,” Tuck muttered. “But perhaps this gold can buy a little peace.”

Then came a sound from the trees: crack… scrape… scuffle.

Nottingham’s men emerged from the shadows.

“Hand over the purse, friar,” their captain ordered.

“I fear you have mistaken me for someone who enjoys giving away his dinner money,” Tuck replied.

The soldiers moved in. Before they could seize him, arrows struck the ground at their feet. Robin’s future Merry Men had arrived, springing from the forest and surrounding the ambushers.

Steel flashed. Boots pounded the earth. Tuck ducked behind a tree while the Merry Men drove the Sheriff’s men back. One outlaw was injured during the struggle, but the Nottingham soldiers finally fled.

“Tell your master,” shouted one of the Merry Men, “that Sherwood is not his to take!”

The surviving soldiers escaped and hurried back to Nottingham Castle, where they reported the news: Friar Tuck was carrying Spanish gold, and a growing band of outlaws had protected him.

Chapter Three: The Giant at the River

Meanwhile, a young Robin Hood was travelling through the countryside, looking for a new beginning. By dusk he reached a broad river. A huge man stood on the opposite bank. He was so tall and broad that Robin wondered whether the stories of giants might be true after all.

“You shall not cross,” thundered the stranger.

Robin rested a hand on his sword. “And if I must cross?”

“Then you must defeat me.”

The duel began. The giant attacked with enormous strength, but Robin moved like a dancer. Their blades rang across the riverbank. Robin parried, stepped aside, turned his opponent’s momentum against him and finally knocked the giant’s sword into the grass.

The giant stared in disbelief.

“Who are you?” Robin asked.

The giant smiled. “Little John.”

Robin lowered his sword. “Then, Little John, perhaps we have both found what we were looking for.”

The battle proved something important: Robin Hood possessed extraordinary swordsmanship, good enough to stand against one of the strongest fighters in the country.

Chapter Four: The Sheriff’s Dangerous Plan

At Nottingham Castle, the Sheriff summoned Princess Maid Marian. She had never trusted him and disliked his cruel rule.

“Marian,” said the Sheriff, “you will become my wife.”

“I would sooner marry a stone wall,” she replied.

Enraged, the Sheriff secretly employed a witch to cast a spell over Marian. The magic clouded her judgement and changed her feelings towards him. Soon she agreed to the marriage.

But magic built on deceit rarely survives the truth.

Chapter Five: The Gold Is Shared

The Merry Men brought Tuck safely back to camp. The purse was opened and the Spanish coins were counted around the fire.

“This belongs to all of us,” Robin said when he arrived. “Not one man. Not one master. We share it fairly.”

For a brief moment, Sherwood was peaceful.

Chapter Six: Will Scarlet’s Challenge

Will Scarlet challenged Robin to a fierce contest of skill. Their swords met again and again beneath the trees.

“You may be good,” Will said, breathing hard, “but Sherwood has no room for fools.”

Robin answered, “Then let the sword decide.”

Robin won the contest, but Will did not reveal his true purpose. He had secretly been working for the Sheriff.

That night Will rode to Nottingham.

“My lord,” he told the Sheriff, “the outlaws possess a great quantity of gold. And there is a new man among them—Robin Hood. He could become a serious threat.”

Chapter Seven: The Burning of the Camp

The Sheriff sent soldiers into Sherwood. Guided by Will Scarlet, they found the hidden camp.

“By order of the Sheriff!” shouted the captain. “Hand over the gold. It is required for taxes.”

“Taxes?” Tuck exclaimed. “You have come with swords and fire for a purse of coins?”

The soldiers set fire to the camp. Smoke rolled through the trees as the Merry Men scattered. Little John, Robin Hood and Will Scarlet escaped through a narrow woodland passage.

Friar Tuck was not so fortunate. He was captured and dragged to Nottingham Castle.

Chapter Eight: The Prisoner of Nottingham Castle

In the castle dungeon, Tuck was told that he would hang in the morning. Worse still, the Sheriff declared that he would marry Maid Marian after the execution.

“You have forgotten one thing,” Tuck said.

“What is that?” asked the Sheriff.

“A friar always has friends.”

Chapter Nine: The Rescue

Before dawn, Robin Hood and the Merry Men entered the castle. Little John created a diversion at the gate while Robin slipped through the shadows.

At the gallows, Tuck stood beneath the rope.

“Any last words?” demanded the Sheriff.

“Yes,” called a voice from the crowd. “Let Friar Tuck walk free.”

Robin appeared on the castle wall. Arrows flew—not to kill, but to scatter the guards. The Merry Men rushed forward, freed Tuck and fought their way through the courtyard.

Chapter Ten: Marian Breaks the Spell

Maid Marian saw Robin Hood for the first time. Something within her stirred. The spell began to crack.

“Robin?” she whispered.

“Marian, you are under a spell. Come with us and be free.”

The witch appeared, furious that her magic was failing.

“You cannot undo what I have made!” she cried.

Robin drew his sword. “Perhaps not with words.”

The witch and Robin fought in the great hall. Magic filled the room with sparks and shadows, while Robin relied on skill, courage and determination. At last the witch’s spell broke completely, and the evil enchantress was defeated.

Chapter Eleven: The Escape from Nottingham

With Marian finally free of the spell, Robin led her away from the Sheriff’s grasp. The Merry Men escaped through the castle grounds while flames rose behind them.

Robin looked back at Nottingham Castle. “Let this be the last night the Sheriff believes fear can rule everyone.”

The castle burned as the outlaws disappeared into the forest, carrying their rescued friend, their courage and the hope of a new beginning.

The End — But the Legend Has Only Begun

Robin Hood had arrived in Sherwood, Little John had found a worthy companion, Friar Tuck had survived the Sheriff’s trap, and Maid Marian had broken free from enchantment. Yet the betrayal of Will Scarlet remained an open wound—and the Sheriff of Nottingham would surely seek revenge.

Could there be another adventure? Absolutely. The forest is waiting.
